We are highly flexible and experienced in all the different systems of Rendering. 

Here is a brief description of a few different systems of render and rendering products TW Plastering use.

• Monouch Render
• Silicone Render
• Acrylic render
• Mineral Render

Monocouche is a cement based render with a colour pigment mixed through it. The word Monocouche is derived from the French and meaning single layer as it is a one coat render designed for brick or block work although an undercoat will sometimes also need to be applied.

Monocouche is a high quality render that can be applied by hand or machine and it is then scraped back to leave a crisp flat finish that looks so much better than traditional render. It is economically priced and being one coat does not take as long to apply as some of the other render systems.

It can also be used to achieve different special effect finishes such as brick or ashlar stone.

Being a through coloured render you won’t have to paint it and it is algae and water resistant. It also allows the property to breathe thereby reducing the risk of damp.

It is not however crack resistant so would not be suitable for properties prone to movement.

Our recommended product is Weberpral M Monocouche coloured render which is available in 24 colours. 6 standard colours and 18 special colours.

Silicone render is a formulation that has had silicone water repellent added to the cement based render system. 

The silicone technology allows water vapour to pass through the render enabling the property to breathe whilst creating a water repellent surface which leaves the surface drier and as such it is more resistant to algae.

Again it is a high quality modern render system that comes in a range of colours with a nice natural finish. It is slightly more expensive than Monocouche and it takes a little bit longer to complete due to the curing required. 

Whilst it is very durable and hard wearing like monocouche this type of render is also not crack resistant so again unsuitable for a property prone to movement.

Our recommended product is K Rend’s Silicone Scraped Texture range. There are 20 standard colours for the scraped texture range.

It also comes as a thin coat render which can be applied to board systems or directly onto masonry. The thin coat renders produce a different finish to the scraped silicone render range. The texture can also be modified to taste by applying the render at different thicknesses.

As with monocouche silicone render can also be used to achieve special effects such as brick or stone.

Acrylic render is another form of coloured render. It is a resin based render system that is weather resistant, durable and flexible. 

It is normally used on approved render board systems but can also be applied directly onto masonry. 

Like monocouche and silicone based renders it can be finished with different textures and being flexible it is also less prone to cracking which can be an issue for other render systems.

Darker and stronger colours can also be achieved with this type of render and the choice of colours is vast but generally unless mixed with other materials Acrylic or resin renders do not allow the property to breathe so this type of render is not suitable for all properties as it can cause condensation issues.

It is important if you are considering acrylic render that you check out the product you intend to use carefully to make sure it is right for the application you want it for.

Our recommended manufacturer for Acryclic renders is Parex and again there is a huge range of colours available.

Modern mineral based renders can be coloured or none coloured. They are particularly useful when the temperature is going to be low when the render is applied or in adverse weather conditions as they are extremely quick drying and less likely to suffer problems encountered with other render systems such as wash off.

Depending upon the manufacturer they can also be mixed with other properties to assist with dirt resistance etc. 

If you need to apply render to a property in a colder climate or during wet conditions then a mineral render may be the appropriate choice.

Coloured render comes in a wide variety of different colours with some of the synthetic based ones coming in very strong bold colours that really make a statement. These lovely bright colours look great on schools, hospitals and day centres and can really add some cheerfulness to the buildings.

However for the majority of people when rendering their homes a colour that is a little bit more conservative is a more popular choice. Our most popular colours this year have been Ivory, Chalk and Silver Pearl which have all created stunning results for their owners. Have a look at some of our completed projects.

Not only are modern coloured renders much more superior to traditional render. They have the added advantage of providing a choice of colour from the outset that you will never have to paint and you can also have a choice of finish.

It is also possible to produce special effect finishes in different patterns and they can even be applied to look like brick or stone which can be mixed with other types of finish to produce a truly individual project design.

There are pros and cons for each of the different types of renders so which one is suitable for you largely depends upon the type of property you want to render and personal preference on colour and texture. 

The main downside that can be applied generally to them all is probably price as it is of course more expensive than a traditional sand and cement render would cost. 

 Without doubt all of the modern render systems are far more superior in terms of protecting your property and they all produce a much better finished look with minimal maintenance.

We would therefore not hesitate in recommending a modern coloured render system over and above a traditional render although it does come with a more expensive price tag. The initial outlay may be more expensive but if you take into account that modern renders will not require painting then over the lifetime this additional expense is recouped and even savings made.

Whatever render system you are considering for you home it is important to ensure that you get some professional advice before deciding which is best for you and the property you want to apply it to as not all render systems are suitable for all types of property.
